6-week course: 'I learn to manage my emotions'

What does the course entail?

During the 6-week course, we will explore the 4 main categories of human emotions: joy, sadness, fear and anger. With kindness and non-judgment, we will explore and discover simple techniques to deal with those feelings, whenever we feel that they are impacting negatively on our lives. Apart from joy of course, here we want to learn to intensify it!

Sadness - learning to harness the positive...

From unhappiness, gloom and sorrow to heartache, melancholy or anguish; we have all experienced different levels and intensity of sadness. We may feel sad at various points of the day, week or even month, depending on our routine or the season; and here it is about accepting those feelings as being part of our lives, not dwelling on them and explore and reinforce our natural positivity.

Joy - you can never have too much!

Bliss, comfort, happiness, delight, elation, glee, jubilation and so much more...

Whether you are a 'glass-half-full' or 'glass-half-empty' sort of person, we will explore how we can capture these feelings of joy and intensify them as and when we need to.

Anger - it is ok to be angry...

Mood, annoyance, frustration, irritation, exasperation, irritability, resentment, rage etc...

Anger can have a different connotation, sometimes it feels like it is not 'appropriate' to be angry. In fact, it is ok to feel angry, it is just not helpful to express this anger whenever it bubbles up to the surface. Whether at work, with our partner, with our children, on the tennis court or with a customer service assistant... we have all been there!

During the course, we will explore techniques to deal with anger effectively, in a 3-pronged approach:

  • what to do every day
  • what to do when coming up to boiling point
  • what to after having a 'pressure cooker' moment

Fear

Being afraid, apprehensive or feeling a sense of unease, worry, dread, anxiety distress...

Here again, what is important is to welcome those feelings with kindness as being part of us. As human beings, we will experience some form of fear at various points in our life. If those feelings start to impact negatively on our lives, then it is useful to learn techniques to reduce their intensity and alleviate them. After all, we all need to get on with our every day life.
